CANNES

Situated on the Rue d Antibes just a few minutes walk from the Croisette, The Riviera Eden Palace, offers accommodations in a variety of apartments from studio’s to one bedroom apartments, at a very reasonable cost, throughout the year and especially during the Film Festivals when prices sky rocket. All apartments and studios are decorated to a high standard Breakfast and daily service is included in the price. Great value. An advertiser in The Business of Film for the past four years the magazine works with The Riviera Eden Palace’s director Salvatore Furfaro, in offering special amenities to clients of The Business of Film during the Cannes International Film Festival. The Cannes Film Festival 2002 special package details will be available soon.

Without question The Carlton Hotel Cannes, is one of the Cote d’Azur most elegant hotels. Steeped in history, it’s the headquarters of the major companies and major independent companies during the Cannes International Film Festival, The Carlton is also home to the many international stars and traditionally jury members and The President of the Jury during the Festival.  Its roof top restaurant, Belle Epoque is one of the best in the South of France, and the view from the balcony of the Casino is just magnificent.  One of my favorite people in the whole world is Stephane Fanculli, the Head Concierge, he has been at the Carlton since he was 17, and helpful, charming and obliging to all guests.

Cannes is a shoppers paradise especially the Rue D’ Antibes and the many streets that lead from it.  However I have always found the assistants in the majority of the shops unhelpful, and surly. It’s hard to generalize, but it’s a reality. So it was a lovely surprise to discover Deo Cadres on Rue Commandant Andre. The shop family owned and run, stocks an assortment of frames, boxes, unusual gift items, all of good quality and very reasonably priced. It also specializes in picture framing. I recently had a limited edition signed Francis Ford Coppla wine poster beautifully framed, in tune with the particular colors of the poster. Excellent work.

La Maya, just across from the Majestic Hotel on rue Notre Dame, has a fantastic collection of quality Art Deco, which owner Jeanne Ducote ships worldwide for her international clientele. The boutique has a collection of not only Art Deco furniture, but also a selection of antiques, and objects of furnishing for the home. The collection varies from silver or wooden frames to light fittings and small object d’ art. Mdme. Ducote speaks perfect English, and when you enter the shop you feel as if you have entered her own home. Recommended browsing, particularly if Art Deco is your preferred period in history.
