Like most, if not all women, I have a closet full of handbags, the little bag that goes with this little number, that little number, you know the story.
Some time ago whilst strolling along the Rue St Honore, just as you cross Place Vendome, I noticed the shop Goyard, but had no time to pop in. This trip I did. And the store is simply a MUST on your next visit to Paris.
The oldest luggage and travel accessories designers and craftsmen in France, the quality of the work on each item is exemplary. In 1998 Goyard was brought by Jean Michel Signoles, who has ensured that the manufacture of all Goyard baggage, bags and leather goods are in accordance the original tradition of quality and craftsmanship. He has re-introduced the traditional ‘stencil’ coated canvas developed around 1892 by Edmond Goyard. And the “toile” characteristic feature that marks Goyard’s original style
Goyard is still at its original address at 233 Rue St Honore. Throughout this website you will often read about the atmosphere of a place, to me it’s the singularly most important aspect as we all go on our adventures to acquiring items we wish to purchase, or travel for business or pleasure. As you enter this impressively laid out shop you are immediately taken into the warmth and lightness of the décor of the boutique. Because of the time it takes to make each item the stock is not very large, and therefore the attention to detail is very pleasing to the eye. On my visit in December 2001, on display was the prototype of an especially commissioned handmade trunk for one of France’s leading chef, a beautiful piece of artistry, in motion. Each compartment is designed to store everything he needs in the kitchen, quite superb. For the man in your life who travels a great deal I would suggest the carry-on briefcase with computer compartment complete with pockets for pens etc. Stunning and very discreet. Tel 331 42 60 57 04
